About Remedial Massage:

All good quality massage (relaxation or remedial) improves circulation and clears toxins, so what does Body Harmony remedial massage offer in addition?

  • Releasing fascia - Fascia is the part of our whole connective tissue system that includes tendons, ligaments and tissue that supports and protects arteries, veins, nerves, organs and the brain.  This fascia wraps around muscles and joints.  When this tissue is worked on effectively it becomes more elastic and  allows easier, more effective access to underlying muscle without having to experience pain.
  • Conversely if fascia is not released properly and too much pressure is exerted in the massage, it will lock up to protect underlying tissue and leave you feeling tighter and sore the day after the massage (once the endorphin effect wears off).

  • Body Harmony remedial massage allows you to re-sensitise to your body through the way it respectfully releases tension.  This means that you become more honouring of your body and  able to  respond to its needs well before it cries out in pain! One of the keys to health care is making changes before problems become too ingrained.  By honouring the bodies sensitivity we can learn to get out of the way of its natural capacity to heal itself, rather than  compound problems by ignoring them or being distracted by life and trying to push through problems.

  • The effect of Body Harmony Massage  becomes a marker for you throughout your every day -  where appreciating the simplicity of connection and awareness steers you towards greater freedom of movement, less physical strain and drain and a heightened sense of vitality and well-being.

What makes a good quality massage?

Firstly, a good quality massage is one that you enjoy while you are receiving it - it need not be painful. Through great quality hand skills which are gentle but firm, you get to experience the body releasing in layers and enter into a state of deep rest and rejuvenation.  This also supports your mind to let go and enjoy a quality of stillness.

Any deep tissue effect which includes releasing trigger points, knots and adhesions in muscles, is  performed so that, if there is any discomfort, you are not being disturbed and you feel confident that the tissue is being released and not damaged, which prevents the body bracing due to too much pressure being applied.

Good quality massage means the practitioner is  supportive in helping you to stay tuned into your body to be able to appreciate how it responds to the right pressure which is nurturing as well as therapeutic.  Therefore a practitioner should not engage in chatting or other forms of distraction from this purpose of supporting connection.

Being held in Stillness while being massaged feels amazing! It invites you to connect deeply to yourself.  When you connect to your body and return to a natural gentle breath  during a massage, it supports the process of deeply letting go. You return to a state called homeostasis - where the body settles into  a state of complete rest and restoration.

Homeostasis is the most important state to drop into and experience, no matter what the outer goal of the massage is. It offers a reflection of a state of being without stimulation and honouring of Stillness, a natural part of us which  we can learn to bring into daily life and  without which we become drained and seeking of artificial stimulants.

Alternatively, if you are stimulated with hard and fast  massage techniques unnecessarily  (there may be a requirement of this in a sports setting but not in a clinical massage setting) , you never get to feel this level of surrender, level of dropping into your body and the Stillness that resides within that is so important to access to offer healing and harmony within. If we do not feel Harmony within us, we miss out on the natural Joy that can come through into our  daily activity and we  do not appreciate how  simple it can be to live in  harmony, joy  and what true vitality feels like in our lives.

There is much to be gained from good quality massage!
