About Remedial Massage:

All therapeutic massage improves circulation offers relaxation, so what does Body Harmony remedial massage offer as well?

Releasing fascia -
  • Fascia is part of a network of connective tissue that wraps around muscles and joints.  It protects by bracing to prevent injury or due to stress and can become hardened.  Working with fascia allows it to  re-hydrate and  become more elastic. Besides providing more freedom of movement and feeling at ease this also  provides easier access to underlying tissue where knots, adhesions or trigger points may exist and need to be worked on.
  • If fascia is not released properly and too much pressure is exerted in the massage, it will lock up to protect underlying tissue and leave you feeling tighter and sore the day after the massage (once the endorphin effect wears off).

Improving Body awareness
  • Body Harmony remedial massage offers a quality of massage  which support you to re-sensitise to your body.  We appreciate that being sensitive is a  natural state.  It can inspire you to listen to your body  and honour that  natural sensitivity in everyday life with simple moment to moment choices, like moving with ease and not haste.

  • The effect of Body Harmony Remedial Massage  becomes a marker for you throughout your every day -  where appreciating the simplicity of connection and awareness steers you towards greater freedom of movement, less physical strain and drain and a heightened sense of vitality and well-being.  And this does not necessarily have to come from being more disciplined, but instead from simply listening to our bodies and responding.

What makes a truly effective, therapeutic massage?

A great quality massage is one that you enjoy while you are receiving it - it need not be painful. Through great quality hand skills which are gentle but firm, you get to experience the body releasing in layers and enter into a state of deep rest and rejuvenation.  This also supports your mind to let go and enjoy a quality of stillness.

Any deep tissue effect which includes releasing trigger points, knots and adhesions in muscles, is  performed so that, if there is any discomfort, you are not being disturbed and you feel confident that the tissue is being released and not damaged, which prevents the body bracing due to too much pressure being applied.

Great quality massage means the practitioner is  supporting you to stay tuned into your body to be able to appreciate how it responds to the right pressure which is nurturing as well as therapeutic.  Therefore rather than engage in chatting or other forms of distraction  we prefer to allow you to  settle into a quiet space.  There is a  place for conversation  during treatments  if it supports nominating what  needs  to be let go of in your body as a process of healing and which results in  a deep  settlement and restorative  state.
